The Social Sciences Doctoral Council

The Social Sciences Doctoral Council (SSDC) of the University of Debrecen consists of representatives from the University’s three doctoral schools — the Doctoral School of Management and Business and the Marton Géza Doctoral School of Legal Studies. The composition of the SSDC is determined by the University Doctoral and Habilitation Council (UDHC) based on the proposals of the heads of the participating doctoral schools.

Main Responsibilities of the Social Sciences Doctoral Council

  • Decides on the allocation of scholarship-funded doctoral positions among the doctoral schools;
  • Makes decisions on admission to the doctoral schools and on the appointment of supervisors for admitted candidates;
  • Approves or rejects requests for supervisor changes and appoints new supervisors when necessary;
  • Decides on applications for suspension of doctoral studies;
  • Makes decisions related to doctoral procedures, including initiation of procedures and the appointment of examination and review committees, except for the final awarding or recognition (nostrification) of doctoral degrees;
  • Decides on the inclusion of new supervisors in the official supervisor registry;
  • Provides opinions and recommendations on the completion of doctoral procedures, the award of doctoral degrees, and the recognition of foreign doctoral degrees;
  • Gives opinions on co-supervision (joint supervision) requests.
